Happy Birthday Brennan

Today my eldest child turned 5 years old. I am the mother of a 5 year old, how is that possible? Five years ago, almost to this minute, I pushed a 9lb 12 oz baby boy out of my body with no drugs! I felt like super woman at the time. And looking back on the past five years, I still feel like super woman!

Sweet Brennan, today you are 5 years old. You told me today (while sitting on the toilet :)) that you "still feel little, even though you're 5". You are a true joy. You are full of life and energy. You like anything having to do with the outdoors. You are my child that makes me wish we lived in the country. You are happiest when you're dirty, sweaty and outside. Some might dub you a "strong willed child" but I can't call you that because that would be like the pot calling the kettle black. You are just like your momma! You know what you want and you're gonna get it, you're mischievous, and you buck the system just enough to make people take a second look at you. Here are some funny things you've done/said lately....

*You told me the other day that "our van is appropriate for the rain".

*You like to play "church" with Charlotte. This means pretending to drop her off at her class, fill out her name tag, tell her to have fun while you're gone, etc. Very Cute.

*You are (still) obsessed with Star Wars. Everything is a light saber to you.

*You came home from preschool with marker on your ear and told me you tried to trace your ear.

*You call Kindergarten, kindergarten round-up. We went last week for Round-up, but now you say you'll start Kindergarten Round-up next fall.

*Sometimes when I'm getting dressed you'll tell me I look "rock n roll". I have no idea what that means.

*You love hanging out with the youth group kids. You don't really want to talk to them, but you love being part of the crowd. If they talk to you about Star Wars though, then you'll start talking back!

Brennan, I'm blessed to call you my son. I hope you had a great 5th birthday. I love you!

I Have Arrived

Yes folks, I have officially arrived at the point in life where I can no longer get everything done. I've long heard of this phase, but never quite understood. It used to be that if I began to feel overwhelmed I could take a Friday morning and clean, get caught up on laundry, sort paperwork, etc., and all would be well. Alas, it is no longer possible for me.

Things on my proverbial "back burner" right now......

1. Vacuuming, I can't remember this last time I did it. I LOVE my hand held Dyson but it allows me to go way to long without using my real vacuum.

2. Clipping the toenails and fingernails of the little people in my house. Someone is always looking a little "Lee Press On" if you know what I mean.

3. As I write this both my boys are wearing NO underwear. I'm currently washing everything they own.

4. There are numerous clothing items behind my dryer. We may have to move before I get to that.

5. All our tax info is still sitting out. Need to find space for filing and then file.

6. Clean winter clothes out of drawers.

7. Come up with a plan for surviving the summer.

I know there's plenty more, but that's all I can come up with right now. What's on your "back burner"? And if your answer is your tea kettle I don't want to hear from you.

Thursday Nights

One of the hard things about my husband's job is that he works a lot of evenings. But we try, try, try to keep Thursday nights wide open for doing absolutely nothing. Tonight we were successful. Basketball with Dad outside, yummy dinner, the baby in bed before 7, made cookies with the boys, and now I'm watching Tyler wrestle with the boys on the living room floor. They've moved all the furniture to the edges and the boys are laughing so hard they're drooling on their jammies. The cookies are baking and we'll eat them hot out of the oven before putting the boys to bed. After that there's a bottle of wine calling my name, and yes I'll share with Tyler. I love Thursday nights.

In the sprit of "keepin' it real" here's what else happened tonight. Tyler brought home Juice Stop after work and shared with the boys. This meant sticky drips on my freshly washed kitchen floor. The boys didn't care for dinner, I think their exact words were "this is disgusting". That kind of disrespect called for punishment of course. Making cookies with kids means a huge mess in the kitchen and germy fingers in the dough. While wrestling, Calvin hit his head and will have a lovely bruise tomorrow. Charlotte woke up, I think she's working on some new teeth. But that bottle of wine is still waiting for us, and I still love Thursday nights!

What a game! What a night! We watched the game at my brother's house with his fam, my sister and her fam and some close friends that are like family. I'll post pics as soon as I get them from my brother...I forgot my camera!

Happy Easter!

Responsive Blog Reading

Me: He is Risen
You: He is Risen indeed
Together: Hallelujah!

We had a great time reflecting on our Risen Savior, eating great food, hunting for eggs, eating chocolate, hanging out with family, trying to explain to the kids that bunnies don't lay eggs, and that neither eggs or bunnies have anything to do with the real reason for the holiday. Here's the proof...

Too Cute!!

Charlotte is a thumb sucker. She has been since she was 3 months old. Over the last couple months however, she's picked up a new habit. When she's sucking her thumb she wants to have fabric in her other hand and hold it next to her face. She'll use just about anything when she's tired, a blanket, the collar on my shirt, she'll crawl over to the curtains if she needs to. The other morning she was so tired and crawled over to my socks!!! Is this not the cutest thing you've ever seen?!?!
