He's Just 8

This is Calvin and one of his best buddies.

Calvin is a very tall 8 year old. Taller actually than all the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in his school. He thinks it's great! We had our first experience with some disgruntled parents (from the opposing team) at his basketball game the other day. They were sitting behind us and complaining about the kid who "was probably 13 and his parents held him back so he'd be the tallest player on his team". I froze and didn't say anything at all. But if I could do it again I'd turn and politely say "nope, that's my sweet son and he's just 8. If you look closely you'll still see baby cheeks."  Maybe we'll need to start carrying his birth certificate with us.

Twins

These two dressed alike the other day for school. They thought it was so funny when they came out for breakfast and realized they basically had the same outfit. Because they wear uniforms it's not unusual for the boys to do this. But pretty unusual for Charlotte who has a wider array of uniform clothes.

Baby Wearing

Margo loves (loves!) her babies. She says to me frequently "I want to be a mom SO bad" or "when am I going to be a big sister?"  We found an easy way for her to wear her babies this morning.

A Reason

The other night I was looking for a recipe that I knew I had made a couple years ago.  I couldn't find it in my recipe folder and that's when I remembered I had posted it on my blog.  That long lost blog of mine.  I hadn't even clicked on the link in well over a year.  I found the recipe (remember Lasagna Soup?) and then proceeded to spend the next 2 hours lost in a sea of memories.  I couldn't stop reading my own blog!  And that's when I remembered why I started blogging in the first place - I wanted a place to record all the memories.
When I started reading (and laughing and crying) I realized how much I had forgotten.  Funny stories, thoughts that I had when my children were younger, things I thought I'd never forget.  And guess what? I had forgotten.  So I'm going to try and do this again.
Somewhere along the line I got lost in thinking that my words needed to be more eloquent or that I should be posting serious thoughts.  And that's when blogging became pressure and stress.  So things will be short and sweet around here.  In fact I just downloaded an app on my phone that will hopefully make things even easier.
Put me back on your radar (or bookmark list). But I make no promises as to how often!

I'm coming back

Happy Friday

We're heading into a fun weekend. Today we're headed to the Marble Factory in the KC area with Calvin's class for a field trip. Charlotte gets to go too and is so excited to hang with the big kids. Tomorrow is Calvin's 7th birthday! We have some fun family things planned and he's been discussing all week where he wants to go to lunch because he gets to pick. He actually has a friends birthday party on his birthday. Fun for him but a little strange for me to have him away for a few hours on his birthday! He also gets to go to the KU basketball game on Saturday night with daddy. Fun!
We'll have his birthday party with a couple of friends on Monday since the boys don't have school on President's Day.

Hope you have a fun and/or relaxing weekend planned. I'll leave you with a picture. I'll never catch up on the months I didn't blog but here's a picture of us all from Christmas.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day! I saw this cute idea on a favorite blog of mine (http://www.designmom.com/) and I think they turned out so cute. It took about 5 minutes to upload the photos to Walgreens.com, add the border and message, and order them. I picked them up later that night. Assembly and adding messages on the back with the boys took about 15 minutes. Easy! That's my kind of project.
One of the reasons I love my boys small, Christian, school? Small class sizes!! In years past it was like I was running a sweat shop trying to get the boys to put together and add names to all their valentines. 60 valentines versus 20 valentines? I'll take it!

Our Valentines plans were foiled a bit but it was still a great day. Tyler and I had plans to go to my brother-in-law's fabulous restaurant in KC, but instead I ended up supporting a mom in labor. In my line of work when a baby decides to come everything else goes out the window. It's easy to keep things in perspective though when your job involves watching the miracle of birth.
