I have hit a new phase in my parenting life. I'll call this stage the "able to take a shower without fear of kids burning down the house, hurting each other, running off down the street or chocking to death" stage. I have to say, it's a good one. I remember clearly when B, my oldest, turned 14 months old and stopped his morning nap. I thought, when in the world will I take a shower or read my bible? For the next 5 years those things were relegated to times when the kiddos were sleeping. Weeeelllllll, not any more! The last couple weeks I've taken a shower WITH MY KIDS AWAKE!! I put Charlotte in her room for some "crib time" with books. Calvin usually hangs out in his room or on my bed with books. And Brennan, well I'm not sure exactly what he does, but he does so without being destructive. Amazing!
Now do not misunderstand, this does not mean that I take a shower before noon everyday now. I've spent the last 5 years pretty nasty until nap-time. It will take more than a few weeks to retrain this momma!

Way to go! I always say that since I became a mother, I have become a "conservationist" --- fewer showers, shorter showers. Enjoy!
I discovered this "phase" when I realized that all of my kids would sit in front of Sesame Street for a while giving me the time I needed to shower, and dare I say, even shave my legs! Sure, some might label me a bad mother for sitting my kids in front of the tv, but others would label me a bad wife for not getting my shower in before my husband gets home every day. So, I'm splitting the difference, with days of Elmo and days of shrugging my shoulders at my husband.
Linds...I absolutely love your blog and it makes me smile. I thank Jesus for you and Tyler and am blessed. Thanks for sharing your family through the blog. One day, I hope that we are parents and I'll be able to blog about all the funny things they do. Have a great day!
